Formed in 1945, Salcombe Ladies Hockey Club initially
played their games at Motherhill Farm, Salcombe. In the
mid 1950’s they moved to Malborough where they
continued until there was a shortage of players.
In 1967, Mrs Annie Turner along with other former players
gave the club a fresh start and for the first few years were
allowed to use Kingsbridge Hockey Club’s pitch, until
Mrs Carr, a Salcombe resident and former president of
the club, let them use her plot of land in Salcombe.
For nearly 8 years, Chairwoman Shirley Valentine & husband
Sam Valentine, worked with all the ladies, fundraising and
getting their hands dirty to develop the ground
into a pitch and clubhouse.
The club called this home until 2006, when they moved
to the newly constructed all weather pitch in Kingsbridge
and this was also the year they became Kingsbridge &
Salcombe Hockey Club, incorporating all ages and both
Ladies & Men.
